Hematology Technician Temp

Job Overview

The Hematology Technician I performs cytology accessioning, staining, and laboratory testing. Responsibilities include preparing samples, setting up instruments, running tests, interpreting results, and releasing reports.

Work Shift:

11:00am–7:30pm, Monday–Saturday (5 days). Target Pay: $22.55 per hour.

• Build CBC/UA loads, slide preparation, and staining.
• Assist with prep of avian/exotic specimens.
• Spin manual hematocrits and prepare blood smears.
• Perform re‑checks with LTP as directed.
• Manage the LTP process.
• Perform all required tests (Destiny Testing, PT/PP, fibrinogen, UA Front End, plasma protein, feline blood typing).
• Equip verification with control samples.
• Accurately match slides with respective TRFs.
• Build cytology and path review loads per protocol, ensure Load Distribution Log completion.
• Transfer cytology table loads as required.
• Accession and label all paperwork, specimen slides, tubes and jars.
• Gross and prepare smears, mono‑layered cytospins, cell blocks.
• Packing cases for in‑house pathologists and for transportation.
• Monitor and reconcile pending distribution list and complete daily distribution email.
• Arrange bar‑coded racks correctly for instrument loading.
• Run all required quality control per QA guidelines, instrument maintenance, and temperature charts.
• Adhere to SOPs, safety, and quality procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Restock supplies as needed.
• Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Consult senior peers on non‑complex hematology tasks.
• Engage in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent with 6 months experience as a Hematology Lab Aide.
• Preferred: 2‑, 3‑, or 4‑year degree in a science‑related field.

• Laboratory skills with experience setting up, running, and operating lab instruments.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Efficient learning of new assignments and supporting other teams during low demand periods.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Positive, can‑do attitude.
• Basic math, interpretive, and analytical skills.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.

• Stationary position for up to 2hours per shift.
• Must operate computer and lab equipment accurately.
• Occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching.
• Lift, move, and carry up to 20lbs.
• Observation of details at close range.
• Extended hours may be required.
