Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Occupational Health & Safety

Job Description
The Employee Safety Supervisor - JFK is responsible for leading and managing all employee safety and regulatory safety compliance programs at the JFK airline catering unit. This role reduces workplace injury risk and maintains full compliance with OSHA requirements.
Essential FunctionsSafety & Compliance Management
- Oversee and maintain the site's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Ensure compliance with:
- OSHA workplace safety standards
- EPA and local environmental regulations
- Maintain safety manuals, SOPs, and compliance documentation.
- Lead the site's injury-prevention strategy, including trend analysis and corrective action planning.
- Lead employee safety team.
- Conduct timely investigations for:
- Workplace injuries
- Ramp incidents, equipment damage, and near‑misses
- Perform root-cause analysis using standardized tools (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.).
- Implement and verify corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Monitor and report safety KPIs (TRIR, DART, near‑miss reporting, training compliance).
- Develop and deliver training for:
- Hazard communication and OSHA compliance
- Emergency procedures
- Coach supervisors and leads to reinforce safe behaviors and accountability.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety stand‑downs, and behavior‑based safety observations.
- Promote a proactive Safety First culture through visibility and employee engagement.
- Conduct routine inspections across:
- Warehouses and loading docks
- Production and support areas
- Maintain digital safety records, inspection logs, and corrective‑action tracking.
- Maintain and update emergency response plans for:
- Fire, chemical spills, and workplace emergencies
- Severe weather and operational disruptions
- Coordinate emergency drills with airport authorities and site leadership.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, training, and compliance activities.
- Prepare monthly safety reports and present KPIs to site leadership.
- Manage digital safety systems and reporting platforms.
- Bachelor's degree preferred with 3-5 years of safety management experience.
- Experience in food manufacturing or catering (supporting knowledge only).
- Demonstrated ability to lead investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web‑based reporting systems.
- Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- OSHA 30 (General Industry)
This role operates in a mixed environment including hot kitchens, cold storage, warehouses, and outdoor ramp conditions. Standard office equipment is used routinely.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Ability to work in varied environments (hot kitchens, cold storage, outdoor ramp conditions). Walking, standing, climbing, lifting up to 25 lbs, and reaching with hands and arms.
Ability to safely access aircraft service areas and industrial equipment.
Full‑time position. Hours may vary based on operational needs and unit visits.
