Full‑Time – 35 hours.

Work Location:

30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101. The Department of Design and Construction, Division of Safety and Site Support seeks a Safety Auditor. The selected candidate will oversee all aspects of DDC’s safety‑related construction programs.

Eligibility:
Only candidates who are permanent in the Industrial Hygienist title or who are reachable on the open‑competitive lists for exam #2029 or exam #6064 may apply. Candidates must provide a copy of Notice of Results, Proof of Filing, or a statement confirming permanent status. Candidates who do not meet these civil service criteria will not be considered for an interview.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct field safety audits and inspections of construction project sites to identify hazardous conditions that may affect workers or the public.
• Ensure implementation of corrective actions and enforce DDC safety policies and procedures in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, DOT, DOB, MUTCD).
• Prepare and issue electronic reports documenting field safety findings and manage safety‑related electronic records.
• Attend construction meetings, support emergency response efforts during working and off‑hours, and participate in accident investigations.
• Communicate effectively with project staff, consultant teams, and contractors, and review Site Safety Plans (SSPs) to prepare various safety reports.

Legal work authorization:
All candidates must be currently authorized to work full‑time in the United States. Candidates must present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work. DDC does not sponsor any visa applications or extensions.

Educational credentials:
Must be from a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Providers are listed at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus 28 semester credits in industrial hygiene, environmental health science, occupational health science, and/or safety engineering.
• OR a baccalaureate degree with 28 semester credits in the physical or natural sciences, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, and/or toxicology plus one year of satisfactory full‑time experience in the identification, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards.
• OR a baccalaureate degree and two years of satisfactory full‑time work experience described above.
• OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to requirements 1–3. Credit substitution rules apply as described.

License Requirements: A valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York.

Note:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates must also have one year of satisfactory full‑time work experience in the identification, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards.

Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills. Construction‑related experience, knowledge of construction safety requirements (OSHA, DOB, DEP, FDNY), and construction safety auditing experience are preferred. OSHA Construction Industry 30‑Hour certification is a plus. Candidates must have a valid motor vehicle driver license and be comfortable driving throughout all five boroughs of NYC.
