Hematology Technician II

Job Summary

The Hematology Technician II performs laboratory analyses and tests. The role includes preparing samples, setting up instruments, running tests, reading, interpreting, and releasing results. Conducts quality control, maintenance, and documentation, and participates in lab efficiency and quality improvement initiatives.

• Set up and run laboratory tests; operate instruments including Atlas UA.
• Read and release test results; prepare, re-check, and library samples.
• Build hematology and urinalysis loads; manage bar‑coded racks and instrument loading.
• Perform all required quality control and calibration per QA guidelines; maintain instrument maintenance charts.
• Print and reconcile queue lists; find missing specimens; maintain refrigerator organization.
• Operate Avian and Exotic specimen procedures as requested.
• Read UA slides, bacteria, and pathology review slides in accordance with department rates.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safety and quality; maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Restock supplies; participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Consult with senior peers on non‑complex Hematology tasks and learn through experience.
• Assist with enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2‑ or 4‑year degree in a science‑related field preferred.
• Prior laboratory experience preferred.
• Laboratory skills with experience setting up, running, and operating lab instruments.
• Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and parasitology procedures.
• Strong attention to detail; ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; adaptable to new assignments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic math, interpretation, and analytical skills; strong data entry proficiency.
• Personal computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office; ability to learn new software.

• Stationary position for up to 2 hours; occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching.
• May lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Requires observation of details at close range.
• Laboratory environment with potential biohazards; mandatory use of PPE.
• Potential exposure to zoonotic agents and hazardous chemicals; adheres to National Hazard Communication Standards.
• Extended hours may be needed.
