Position: Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisor (TA)
Location: Selkirk

Job Summary

As a member of Field Services Americas, you will help our customer (CSX) maintain their fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives by advising, informing, researching, and assisting their mechanical employees. You will work with a team of Wabtec technical and materials experts to ensure the customer’s fleet runs at optimal levels.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of locomotives as a Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisor.
  • Work inside locomotive diesel repair shops on the customer’s property and collaborate with their management teams.
  • Advise railroad employees and management on repair decisions, rather than performing the repairs yourself.
  • Execute 12‑hour shifts on a 4 days on/3 days off schedule, with flexibility required for scheduling changes.
  • Conduct shift start turnover, review locomotive status, discuss material needs, and set expectations for the next shift.
  • Walk the shop daily, engage with employees, provide material support, troubleshoot issues, maintain work orders, and perform other recurring tasks.
  • Assist in reviewing and completing Level 1 Certification materials; study may be required outside of working hours.
  • Provide clear communication and technical guidance on troubleshooting, material assistance, tooling, safety procedures, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate key maintenance and modification programs and procedures.
  • Mentor teams on troubleshooting, material handling, safety, and contract requirements.
  • Communicate work progress, equipment status, and efficiency improvements to employees and management.
  • Promote continuous improvement in safe work practices with supervision of productivity, quality assurance, and contract compliance.
  • Follow all governmental regulations, OSHA work practices, and site‑specific work rules.
  • Assist in establishing production plans for labor, material, and logistics.
  • Use software systems to run material, labor plans, and other production requirements.
Physical Demands
  • Standing for long periods
  • Walking throughout the day, including up and down stairs
  • Climbing on/off of locomotives
  • Observing small writing and labels
  • Wearing all required personal protective gear (hard hat, steel‑toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) continuously
  • Speaking, hearing, and typing
  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required
  • Performing other duties outside your function or trade with adequate training if necessary
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, a 2‑year degree with 2 years of professional experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with at least 4 years of Operations or Military leadership experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work various shifts and in a shop environment.
  • High mechanical and/or electrical aptitude and problem‑solving ability.
  • Completion of Wabtec Level 1 Technical Training within 18 months from hire date.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Validated analytical and quality improvement ability.
  • Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Dependability, a positive attitude, and teamwork orientation.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $62,100–$85,300, subject to change based on training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. Benefits include health, welfare, retirement, and potential annual bonus for eligible employees.
