Senior Industrial Designer, Fauna

As a Senior Industrial Designer, you will be embedded in the mechanical design process, working closely with Design Engineers and the broader hardware team to develop and refine the surfaced geometry of robot exterior parts. This role will translate design direction into production‑ready Class A surfaces, own cosmetic finish specifications, and support CMF decisions that endure through tooling and manufacturing. You must enjoy tackling parting‑line details and collaborating productively with tooling vendors about texture.

• Own Class A surface development for injection‑molded exterior parts, progressing from approved concept geometry or sketches to production‑intent 3‑D models.
• Collaborate with Design Engineers to keep surfaced geometry design‑for‑manufacturing compliant, maintaining draft, wall thickness, and parting‑line strategy without compromising design intent.
• Maintain and refine surface models through tooling development, integrating feedback from T0/T1 sample reviews.
• Support 2‑D cosmetic drawing callouts, specifying surface finish, texture zones, parting‑line locations, and appearance‑critical areas.

• Define and document cosmetic finish specifications for molded and machined parts.
• Develop and manage CMF documentation (material callouts, color standards, finish samples, and approval criteria for production).
• Source and evaluate finish and texture options with tooling vendors and surface‑finish suppliers.
• Maintain cosmetic appearance standards and support first‑article cosmetic inspection criteria.

• Evaluate cosmetic samples and prototypes against intent, communicating acceptability, necessary corrections, and reasons.
• Support design reviews by preparing clear visual references, annotated models, and finish sample boards.
• Assist in evaluating and selecting materials and finishes for new components during NPI.
• Contribute to maintaining a consistent, coherent product language across the robot's exterior.

• 8+ years of design and research & development experience.
• Experience managing engineering design projects.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.

• Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline) or an equivalent field.
• Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, and reliability analysis.
• Experience with automated material‑handling equipment, packaging technologies, and high‑speed manufacturing.
• Experience with design‑in‑safety and Lean‑principle‑based process design.
