Postdoctoral Associate – Crickard Lab, Molecular Biology and Genetics
Academic Job Description
Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics
Postdoctoral Associate
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: we believe that achieving next-generation scientific breakthroughs requires an understanding of the world’s complex, interlocking systems;
we believe that access to nutritious food and a healthy environment is a fundamental human right; and we believe that ensuring a prosperous global future depends on the ability to support local people and communities everywhere. By working in and across multiple scientific areas, CALS can address challenges and opportunities of the greatest relevance, here in New York, across the nation, and around the world.
Position Function
The Crickard laboratory is hiring a full-time postdoc as part of a project funded by the American Cancer Society. The project aims to investigate the etiology of cancer development, focusing on how deregulation of DNA motor proteins contributes to this process. Significant experience in protein purification and biochemistry is necessary for this position. As part of the study, the candidate will receive training in single‑molecule imaging.
The applicant will also be expected to interact with graduate students in the laboratory and to participate in collaborations with other groups, either at Cornell or elsewhere. Cornell boasts a high density of investigators working on DNA recombination, replication, and repair—making the Molecular Biology and Genetics department an ideal place for postdoctoral training in this subject area. Long‑term, the applicant will be expected to develop a project that can be used to establish their own research group.
Salaries are set at NIH rates.

- 10% of the employee’s time will involve professional development.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Cell Biology.
- Evidence of peer‑reviewed publications in a related field and a general enthusiasm for science.
- Skills necessary for this position include protein purification, assay development, and maintenance of cell culture. Experience with protein expression and purification from insect or human cells is a plus.
