Research Scientist, Biomedical Science
Location: New York
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Scientist I to join our innovative team s role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge research at the intersection of biomaterials science, cell‑based and controlled‑delivery therapeutics, and women’s health. As part of a collaborative R&D team, you will help design, formulate, and characterize next‑generation biomaterial systems—particularly hydrogel‑ and polymer‑based platforms—to support the development of implantable therapeutic devices.
If you are passionate about biomaterials and excited to work at the interface of materials science, cell biology, and translational research, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact. You will apply your expertise in biomaterial design, encapsulation technologies, and material–biological interactions to advance implantable systems intended for long‑term function and controlled, sustained therapeutic delivery.
About the RoleAs a Scientist I at Gameto, you will play a key role in developing implantable biomaterial platforms for cell‑based and controlled‑delivery therapies in women’s health. This role requires a strong foundation in biomaterials science and an understanding of how materials interact with living cell systems, including experience with hydrogels, polymer‑based matrices, and cell encapsulation approaches. You will contribute to experimental design, assay and protocol development, and hands‑on laboratory work to support the advancement of implantable therapeutic systems.
We are looking for an independent yet highly collaborative scientist with a strong research background who enjoys solving complex, multidisciplinary problems. You should be comfortable working across multiple projects and research areas in a fast‑paced environment and eager to grow your expertise at the interface of biomaterials, biology, and translational research.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, optimize and evaluate implantable biomaterial‑based platforms for cell‑based and controlled‑delivery therapies, working towards later‑stage translation.
- Design, implement, and analyze experiments involving biomaterial formulation and characterization, cell encapsulation systems, biocompatible implantable devices, and diffusion‑ or degradation‑mediated delivery approaches to support therapeutic development.
- Develop and optimize three‑dimensional biomaterial‑based culture and encapsulation systems to assess cellular function, viability, and material–cell interactions in physiologically relevant environments and towards in vivo translation.
- Support evaluation of biomaterial performance with respect to long‑term stability, functionality, and biological tolerance, with an awareness of considerations relevant to in vivo and translational applications.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners across research, process development, and manufacturing to advance project goals and ensure alignment with Gameto’s broader platform strategy.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and adhere to established research standards, safety procedures, and protocols.
- Identify emerging biomaterials, encapsulation technologies, and delivery strategies, and contribute ideas to ongoing technical development and problem‑solving efforts.
Required:
- Ph.D. in biomaterials science, biomedical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related field
- Established technical expertise in at least one core biomaterials area, including cell encapsulation, hydrogel systems, biopolymer engineering, or host‑biomaterial interactions; broader experience spanning multiple materials platforms is highly valued
- Strong foundation in biomaterials design and development, including experience with biomaterial characterization techniques
- Ability to work independently at the bench while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience operating within structured research or quality systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing scientific documentation and presentations.
- A proactive, problem‑solving mindset…
