Avian Junior Laboratory Associate
Position to study black‑capped chickadees in the New York area. The technician will join a growing research group at NYU focused on understanding the neural mechanisms of memory, using food‑caching birds as a model system. The technician will be based at NYU’s downtown Manhattan campus year‑round, with intermittent fieldwork conducted at sites within a 2‑hour radius of New York City.
Primary responsibilities- Daily care, feeding, and maintenance of birds housed at NYU
- Assistance with behavioral and neurobiological experiments in the lab
- Support for general lab operations and administration
- Fieldwork in the fall and winter consisting of maintenance of field sites and mist‑netting to band and collect wild chickadees
- Transportation and handling of birds from field sites to the lab
Demonstrated experience mist‑netting and handling wild birds. Valid driver's license and willingness to drive self and others for field work. Interest in neuroscience research. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Type of positionFull‑time, 1‑year position with benefits. Possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.
