The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full‑time Assistant Research Scientist I position in our neuroscience laboratory, in which rodent preparations are used to model mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness. Circuit mechanisms of normal brain functions, and how experiences change them are a focus.
The work focuses on neurobehavioral systems, using molecular genetic manipulations to probe neural cellular and circuit function and, ultimately behavior depending on demands of a given experiment.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis research focuses on neurobehavioral systems, employing environmental and molecular/genetic manipulations to investigate neural cellular and circuit structure, function, and their impact on behavior. Responsibilities will vary depending on experimental demands and may include:
- Handling research rodents.
- Performing stereotaxic surgeries and monitoring during recovery.
- Conducting behavioral testing.
- Performing anatomical circuit tracing and neurohistology.
- Conducting electrophysiology and biosensor recordings.
- Analyzing data.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous record‑keeping, and aid others in the laboratory with data.
- Flexible scheduling, including availability for evening and weekend work.
- BA or BS level education in a neuroscience‑related field.
- At least (1) year of experience in at least 3 of the above‑listed techniques.
- At least (1) year of experience with genotyping transgenic rodents.
