Summary

The Summer Intern will work closely with the CCA Management team, gaining direct exposure to the day-to-day operations and strategic planning of a fast‑paced China‑focused think tank. The intern will contribute to strategic planning documents, prepare internal memos and briefings, participate in management meetings, and help track internal workflows across key deliverables, developing firsthand insight into how research, private diplomacy, and operational strategy intersect.

This internship also offers opportunities to attend meetings and engage directly with CCA’s senior leadership, research fellows, and affiliated researchers, as well as relevant external stakeholders.

The internship provides direct involvement in CCA’s flagship initiatives, including project management, fundraising support, performance metrics tracking, and report drafting. Working cross‑pillar with the management team, the intern will deepen their knowledge of China across domestic politics, foreign policy, economics and technology, climate, and society, while strengthening analytical and research capabilities. The intern will also contribute to high‑level convenings and meetings that inform meaningful policy discussions, as well as participate in regular meetings with CCA fellows and affiliated researchers for discussions on developments in China.

Responsibilities
  • Track and research current issues covering Chinese domestic politics; economy and technology; foreign policy and national security; and society.
  • Provide project support for ongoing initiatives including Reality‑Check project, a CCA project addressing misperceptions between the United States and China, and a project mapping China experts in the United States.
  • Track and collect data on CCA’s output including research papers, public and private events, op‑eds, press hits, social media impressions, and video views.
  • Contribute to drafting and editing research outputs, internal newsletters, and presentations for internal and external use.
  • Draft and edit briefs, memos, background material, literature reviews, etc. in preparation for trips, meetings, and events.
  • Compile newsletters and articles for weekly internal news roundups.
  • Maintain and update internal databases.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for public and private events, including drafting invitations, agendas, participant lists, event blurbs, etc.
  • Support fundraising efforts through prospect research and database management.
  • Schedule internal and external in‑person and online meetings and take meeting minutes and prepare summary reports as needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and not yet have graduated at the time of the internship.
  • Must have the ability to work independently.
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and social media platforms.
  • Flexibility with handling diverse tasks.
  • Advanced/native fluency in English and Chinese.
  • Must be available to work in person at the Asia Society’s New York office as well as have U.S. work authorization.
