OverviewThe Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Assistant Research Scientist I position in our neuroscience laboratory, where rodent preparations are used to model mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness. Circuit mechanisms of normal brain functions, and how experiences change them, are a focus. The work focuses on neurobehavioral systems, using molecular genetic manipulations to probe neural cellular and circuit function and, ultimately, behavior depending on demands of a given experiment.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Handling research rodents.
- Performing stereotaxic surgeries and monitoring during recovery.
- Conducting behavioral testing.
- Performing anatomical circuit tracing and neurohistology.
- Conducting electrophysiology and biosensor recordings.
- Analyzing data.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping, and aid others in the laboratory with data.
- Flexible scheduling, including availability for evening and weekend work.
- BA or BS level education in a neuroscience-related field.
- At least one year of experience in at least three of the above-listed techniques.
- At least one year of experience with genotyping transgenic rodents.
