Postdoctoral Research Associate - Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy

Position Overview

The Chemistry Division of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL, http://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the federally funded Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE), a Fuels from Sunlight Center led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collaboration includes North Carolina State University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Yale University.

The successful candidate will conduct basic research as part of the CHASE team with a focus on coupling multiple molecular catalysts through cascade catalysis to generate liquid fuels from carbon dioxide. They will also work collaboratively with the Artificial Photosynthesis (AP) group and be supervised by CHASE principal investigators.

Ph.D. in theoretical or physical chemistry, or a related field.

Extensive experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Computational modeling of homogeneous catalysis of small molecule activation.
• Density functional theory applications to transition-metal containing molecular complexes.
• Hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) methods.
• Experience in applications of data science/machine learning for predictive modeling of catalysis.

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $82,000-$85,000 per year. Candidates will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with their experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.

BNL policy requires that after obtaining a Ph.D., eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events. Candidates must have received a Ph.D. by the commencement of employment.
