Position: Computational Biologist II - The Berger Laboratory
Location: New York

Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK)

We are seeking a Computational Biologist to join the Berger Laboratory, affiliated with the Center for Molecular Oncology  role focuses on characterizing genetic mutations in human tumors and identifying biomarkers of cancer progression and therapeutic response using large scale next‑generation DNA and RNA sequencing.

Role Overview
  • Process, analyze, and interpret next‑generation sequencing (NGS) data to address key scientific questions in cancer genomics and extract insights related to tumor progression and response to therapy.
  • Develop, pilot, and implement bioinformatics pipelines for analysis of RNA‑Seq data from our novel whole‑transcriptome clinical test, MSK‑TARGET.
  • Analyze and integrate mutational and gene expression data across multiple patient samples and assays to characterize biomarkers of response to oncology treatments including theranostics.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, researchers, and investigators to support multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Develop, document, and maintain well‑annotated, reproducible code following best practices.
  • Prepare scientific reports and summaries for internal use and external publication.
  • Present research findings, analytical approaches, and project updates at lab meetings and, as appropriate, at external conferences.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing next‑generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Working knowledge of genomics pipelines and best practices for NGS data analysis.
  • Experience using version control systems (e.g., Git Hub).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within collaborative teams.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to reproducible, high‑quality scientific work.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex analytical results to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cancer genomics research.
  • Familiarity with DNA and RNA sequencing analysis.
  • Understanding of workflow management systems such as Nextflow.

    Hybrid, Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours.
