Role Overview

Orenda, Inc is hiring a Senior Energy Market Research Analyst. This is a full-time role based in New York, Brooklyn. The role reports directly to the CSO and works closely with the Strategy team.

Company

Orenda is on a mission to make the grid more efficient with renewable energy projects and proprietary asset management technology. We build, own, and operate battery energy storage projects in dense urban environments to bridge renewables and electricity consumption.

About The Team

The Strategy team leads the scouting, analysis, and validation of new investment opportunities. The team works cross‑functionally with other business units to translate research findings into implementation plans, and monitors policy developments in the markets where the company operates.

About

The Role

The Senior Energy Market Research Analyst drives Orenda’s market opportunity pipeline. You will research energy markets for new investment opportunities, maintain an opportunity database, monitor market fundamentals, and deliver feasibility reviews that meet our investment standards. Your work shapes which markets the company will enter in 2026 and beyond.

What you'll do
  • Research new energy markets to investigate potential new investment opportunities.
  • Maintain the opportunity database so the Strategy team has a single and up‑to‑date source of truth for every market scanned, monitored, or archived.
  • Monitor and forecast how market fundamentals will evolve, identify the drivers (policy, price, technology), and define the triggers that would confirm or invalidate each forecast.
  • Deliver feasibility reviews against the company’s investment standards.
  • Build and improve the processes that power this role: systematic investigation, forecasting, and feasibility reviews.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in market research, strategy, investment analysis, or a directly related discipline within the energy sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field (engineering, math, physics, data science) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one analytical environment (Python, R, or Matlab) for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
  • Working knowledge of forecasting methods such as time series analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, scenario analysis, or sensitivity testing.
  • Strong written communication skills, able to turn unstructured research into structured documents for decision makers.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving environment, balancing multiple work streams against firm deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in engineering, economics, public policy, or a related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated track record of producing analysis that informed an investment, strategic, or policy decision.
  • Prior experience scouting or evaluating opportunities in distributed energy resources, energy storage, or EV charging.
  • Experience building or owning research processes and databases from scratch.
Skills and Attributes
  • Research‑minded: investigates with genuine curiosity, sustains rigor across long investigations, double‑checks surprising results, and holds a high standard even when no one is watching.
  • Ramps quickly on unfamiliar markets: gets to a working understanding of a new market structure within 1‑2 weeks.
  • Builds data‑driven forecasts: identifies market drivers, builds predictive models to develop a forward view, and revises as new evidence arrives.
  • Builds arguments on evidence: distinguishes what the data shows from what it implies; is honest first and convincing second.
  • Makes decisions under uncertainty: provides calibrated recommendations even with incomplete information, assigns confidence levels, and escalates when warranted.
  • Turns research into actionable documents: writes structured findings that a decision maker can act on.
Location & Work Arrangements

Brooklyn, NY. Full‑time, on‑site position requiring five days a week with regular travel to project sites within the NYC area.

Benefits

  • Significant annual performance‑based bonus.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with 3% employer match.
  • Lifetime Fitness corporate membership.
  • Monthly commuter stipend.
  • Learning and education stipend.
  • Flexible paid time off (PTO) policy.
  • Regular company events.
