Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director of Human Subjects Research Strategy. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Clinical Research Strategy, the Director will inform the strategic direction of human research  role focuses on assessing structural limitations to high-quality human subjects research, improving efficiencies, increasing compliance rates, and serving as a lead consultant on process optimization through technology and resourcing models.

The Director will assist with developing regulatory support models, proactively identifying needed resources, and acting autonomously to solve complex issues.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with the Associate Dean of Clinical Research Strategy to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for a human subject research support service model that aligns with departmental and institutional research goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert recommendations and strategic guidance for human research activities to enhance compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
  • Lead the streamlining and optimization of the human subject research regulatory support for department research, including onboarding, training, professional development, regulatory model design, delivery, and tracking progress.
  • Foster an environment that minimizes administrative burden and inefficiencies, promoting high-level regulatory support.
  • Provide consultation and connection with institutional resources through OSR and other research partners.
  • Provide feedback on institutional research support priorities, goals, and key performance indicators.
  • Determine optimal allocation of research support resources, including personnel, budgets, and technology.
  • Improve and streamline processes related to human research support, ensuring maximum efficiency and quality.
  • Identify and recommend suitable technological solutions to enhance research operations, data management, and analytics in collaboration with departments and MCIT colleagues.
  • Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
  • Develop metrics and criteria for the framework of the regulatory support model.
  • Provide regular reports and analyses to the Associate Dean, offering insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Provide recommendations on the budget for human research support, ensuring responsible financial stewardship with OSR, SRO, CRSU, and department administrators.
  • Ensure that all research support activities adhere to ethical and regulatory guidelines of human subject research.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
    • 10+ years of experience in research design and implementation, operations, or regulatory compliance related to human research.
    • Advanced working knowledge of OHRP, Federal Rules, HIPAA, ICH-GCP, and FDA regulatory processes for drugs and medical devices.
    • Strong understanding of research processes and ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of relevant technologies and tools used in research support.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Experience overseeing cross‑functional and dynamic teams, with highly developed interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience in writing training materials, SOPs, and financial planning.
    • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
    • Ability to summarize complex problems and translate high‑level goals into actionable plans.
    • In‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, One Drive, PowerPoint).
    • Experience working with electronic research administration software.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • 15+ years of experience in research design and implementation, operations, or regulatory compliance related to human research.
    • Effective communication with all levels of the organization.
