Location: New York
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) is offering a paid internship that will support its Marine Fisheries Program in conducting at-sea data collection for an ongoing Jonah crab research study. The internship will run from early July through early September 2026, requiring a flexible schedule and reliable transportation to accommodate variable fishing trip times.
Responsibilities- Participate in fieldwork aboard commercial fishing vessels 1–2 days per week, assisting with biological sampling and data collection.
- Perform data entry and review in the office 1–2 days per week.
- Collaborate with commercial fishermen and scientific staff to support fisheries monitoring.
- Physically capable of performing strenuous tasks, including heavy lifting and working long hours in unpredictable marine conditions.
- Prior experience aboard vessels and familiarity with fieldwork and/or scientific research protocols is preferred.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and access reliable transportation.
- Salary: $19 per hour (24 hours per week).
- Schedule:
Non‑exempt – Temporary position from July 1, 2026 to September 18, 2026. - No relocation or VISA sponsorship available.
