Sea Research Intern - Riverhead, NY

Overview

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County is offering a paid internship opportunity in its Marine Fisheries Program to support at‑sea data collection for an ongoing Jonah crab research study.

• Participate in fieldwork aboard commercial fishing vessels 1–2 days per week, assisting with biological sampling and data collection.
• Perform data entry and review in the office 1–2 additional days per week, averaging approximately 3 days per week in total.
• Assist with project documentation and support the research team.

• Physically capable of performing strenuous tasks, including heavy lifting and working long hours in unpredictable marine conditions.
• Flexible schedule and reliable means of transportation to accommodate variable fishing trip times.
• Prior experience aboard vessels and familiarity with fieldwork or scientific research protocols is preferred.

Salary: $19 per hour (24 hours per week).
