Job Description Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Laboratory Technician I to work within the Newborn Screening Hemoglobinopathy Laboratory. The primary function of this position is to assist in a retrospective data project focused on reviewing and analyzing historical high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) screening results. Responsibilities will include assisting to organize and review archived chromatogram data and related metadata, assisting to identify and categorize hemoglobin patterns that may be challenging to interpret, and supporting data analyses stratified by factors such as gestational age, age at specimen collection, and reagent lot.

The individual will help summarize findings, contribute to quality review documentation, and assist in preparing reports or visualizations to support improved interpretation of complex hemoglobin profiles in newborn screening. Additional tasks may include file management, supporting project coordination, and participating in discussions related to data quality and interpretation.

This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently pursuing a relevant associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or another related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public health or a related field in Biological Sciences. Experience working in a research environment; experience working with Microsoft Excel, Tableau, R, or other statistical analysis programs.

Conditions of Employment

Hourly, grant funded position expected until approximately 11/28/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states:
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
