The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group that harnesses the transformative power of data and artificial intelligence to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED. The Opportunity Frontier Research unit, a specialized part of the CoE, focuses on foundational machine learning research and the development of new algorithmic frameworks.

We operate with a flat scientific structure: senior scientists define their own research agendas and leaders mentor peers while shaping priorities across the organization. Open science, publication, and academic engagement are core objectives.

• Shape the research vision and intellectual mentorship for the lab.
• Act as a peer-based leader, mentoring scientists while preserving their autonomy.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor emerging machine learning researchers.
• Enable strategic collaboration and open science science prioritization.
• Lead global scientific engagement and outreach, including visiting scientist programs and university partnerships.

• PhD with a sustained record of foundational contributions to machine learning or related fields (e.g., computer science, statistics, applied mathematics).
• Proven management experience leading and mentoring senior researchers in an academic or industrial research environment.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the location of New York, is $287,800 - $534,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
