This role will initially be structured as a part-time contract position, with the potential to transition to a full-time role as business needs evolve.
Position SummaryThe Nutrition Scientist will be a member of the Innovation team, supporting ingredient evaluation, claims innovation, scientific research, and innovation initiatives across the Double Wood portfolio. This role will help strengthen the scientific foundation behind the Innovation function by evaluating emerging ingredients and technologies, reviewing scientific evidence, and developing scientific tools and knowledge resources that enable faster, better-informed innovation decisions.
Key Responsibilities Ingredient & Scientific Evaluation- Support the evaluation of emerging dietary ingredients, technologies, and scientific research to identify innovation opportunities.
- Conduct scientific literature reviews to evaluate ingredient efficacy, safety, mechanisms of action, and competitive differentiation.
- Support the review of supplier technical documentation, clinical studies, and scientific evidence to assess ingredient potential.
- Monitor scientific, ingredient, and competitive developments and summarize relevant insights for the Innovation team.
- Support claims innovation by identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing scientific evidence.
- Research emerging science that may create opportunities for differentiated product positioning and consumer benefits.
- Develop scientific summaries and supporting documentation for innovation initiatives.
- Help build and maintain internal claims references and scientific knowledge resources.
- Support innovation initiatives across the portfolio through scientific research, ingredient evaluations, technical assessments, evidence reviews, and the development of scientific summaries and knowledge resources.
- Support ingredient evaluations by assessing scientific evidence, differentiation, consumer relevance, and alignment with innovation priorities.
- Support formulation discussions and innovation initiatives through scientific research and evidence reviews.
- Support additional innovation initiatives and business priorities as needed.
- Build and maintain internal scientific resources, including ingredient profiles, evidence summaries, claims references, supplier evaluations, and technology assessments.
- Develop reusable scientific tools that improve the efficiency and quality of innovation projects.
- Organize scientific knowledge to strengthen long-term innovation capabilities.
- M.S. in Nutritional Sciences, Food Science, Clinical Nutrition, or a related scientific discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in dietary supplements, consumer health, functional foods, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of nutrition science, dietary ingredients, and human physiology.
- Experience conducting scientific literature reviews and evaluating clinical evidence.
- Knowledge of botanicals, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, probiotics, and other dietary supplement ingredients.
- Ability to translate scientific evidence into practical product recommendations and consumer-relevant claims.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience supporting innovation, ingredient strategy, portfolio initiatives, or claims innovation within the dietary supplement industry.
- Experience evaluating supplier technical documentation, ingredient dossiers, and scientific evidence.
- Experience developing ingredient libraries, scientific summaries, evidence repositories, or other scientific knowledge resources.
- Familiarity with emerging ingredient technologies and trends within the dietary supplement industry.
Hybrid (New York City preferred), with remote considered for the right candidate.
Compensation & Schedule- Part-time contract position (20+ hours per week).
- Competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience.
