DescriptionPostdoctoral position in cancer pain neurobiology
The New York University Oral Cancer Center seeks Postdoctoral Research Fellows with a background in cancer and/or neuroscience to study the reciprocal interaction between oral cancer and sensory nerves. Research projects will investigate the mechanisms by which mediators released from oral cancers activate sensory neurons to induce pain. Work will focus on the development and characterization of a new cancer model.
Studies will use cell culture, animal models of oral cancer, genetically engineered mice, in vivo calcium fluorimetry, rodent behavior, imaging, molecular biology, and analysis of oral cancer specimens. Applicants need not have experience in all areas, as expertise is available in our group. We encourage postdoctoral fellows to broaden their skills and experience during their postdoctoral.
The position offers competitive salary and provides opportunities for career development and exposure to a rich scientific environment at NYU and the New York City area. Positions open immediately and for up to five years.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 - $65,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
QualificationsApplicants should have a PhD, MD or DDS degree and experience in cancer, neuroscience or related disciplines. Candidates should have the ability and motivation to work independently and to manage their research projects. Individuals are encouraged to apply, who have outstanding publication records from their graduate or postgraduate work and a passion to better understand cancer-neural interactions that can have potential to translate into treatments to stop cancer and alleviate cancer pain.
