INRAE Presentation

INRAE, Institut National De Recherche Pour L'agriculture, L'alimentation Et L'environnement, is a public research organization that brings together 12,000 collaborators within 272 units spread over 18 centers in France. First global specialized organization on agriculture – food – environment, INRAE plays a key role in accompanying the necessary transitions in the face of major global challenges.

Face to the increase in population, the food security issues, climate change, the scarcity of resources and the decline of biodiversity, INRAE is committed to developing scientific solutions and to accompany the evolution of agricultural, food and environmental practices.

Important:
These positions are open exclusively to civil servants and permanent staff belonging to the three public services.

Work Environment, Missions And Activities

You will join the experimental unit of Pech Rouge (UEPR), the only integrated research experimentation structure in viticulture and oenology of INRAE. The UEPR brings together 25 INRAE agents and includes 22 hectares of viticulture facilities, wine-making platforms and an analysis laboratory. This platform allows a cross-sectional approach from the vine to the packaged product. The work carried out aims to meet the challenges of the sector: adaptation to climate change, reduction of inputs and the development of products that meet consumer expectations.

The UEPR is expected to evolve in the next 10 years to host the Biological Resources Center (BRC) of the vine, a genetic collection of vines, bringing together more than 8,500 accessions from more than 50 countries, planted in the open field. This BRC, of which INRAE is responsible, constitutes an essential and unique resource in the world for varietal improvement, particularly to face the challenges posed by climate change and agro-ecological transition.

Under the direction of the culture chief, you will ensure the maintenance of the viticulture facility within a team composed of 5 people. The viticulture facility consists of experimental plots and vine collections and therefore requires meticulous work on each vine. Your main mission will be the manual maintenance of the vineyard. A part of your mission will specifically focus on the management of nurseries and seedlings.

Your missions will also include the maintenance of the edges of the plots (pruning trees, clearing) and that of fallows, as well as the maintenance of infrastructures and associated equipment. This position directly contributes to the preservation of the genetic diversity of the vine and to the maintenance of a unique plant heritage.

Your role is essential to ensure the quality of the conserved accessions, the sustainability of the plantations and the smooth running of the experiments, in a context combining production, conservation and innovation. In this context, you will be in charge of the following activities:
Viticulture Works
- Carry out manual works of the vineyard: pruning, thinning, debudding, training, maintenance of trellising, weeding and harvests.

- Participate in the planting, maintenance of young plants as well as the management of nurseries and seedlings.

- Contribute occasionally to mechanized works during periods of high activity. Maintenance Of The Domain
- Participate in the maintenance of viticultural equipment and equipment.

- Ensure the maintenance of the edges of the plots: pruning trees, clearing and maintenance of fallows and non-cultivated areas.

- Participate in the monitoring of environmental aspects related to the activities of the position within the framework of the environmental management system. Support To The Projects Of The Unit
- Contribute to the operations related to the transfer of the Biological Resources Center of the vine, on the Vassal and Pech Rouge domains.

Training And Skills Required

You have a training in the fields of viticulture, agronomy or plant production. First experience in viticulture or in viticulture nursery would be appreciated. Know-how:

- Conduct and maintain open field crops
- Maintain young plants and seedlings
- Implement viticulture cultivation techniques
- Apply practices for the maintenance of green spaces and landscaping Know-how:

- Versatility and adaptability
- Autonomy and sense of organization
- Rigor, reliability and professional curiosity
- Respect for safety instructions related to the activities practiced The possession of CACES and/or Certiphyto as well as knowledge of the maintenance and multiplication of vine stems in greenhouses, or of the maintenance of green spaces would constitute additional assets for this position.
