The Department of Surgery within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, State University of New York at Buffalo (UB), seeks qualified Research Scientist in the field of transplant surgery.
Under the supervision of the Transplant Division Chief and the Department Chair, the incumbent will contribute significantly to the advancement of clinical and hospital based research in the Department of Surgery, including collaborative projects with other University at Buffalo and community partners.
Responsibilities- development of research proposals and grant applications
- study conduct, data analysis
- dissemination of research results through publications and presentations
- provide primary or supplementary statistical and programming support as needed for team projects
- assist residents in the Department of Surgery as needed in developing and executing their research concepts.
- prepare and submit IRB applications and other research related administrative tasks.

Minimum Qualifications- Requires a graduate degree in the field of study or discipline, such as an MD or DO. Candidate must possess basic professional knowledge of the disciplinary field and the ability to relate this knowledge to various phenomena under study.
- The position requires the ability to apply the theory, concepts, and principles of the field of study or discipline, as well as practical experience gained through an internship or at least one year of employment in a professional position.
- Experience in conducting outcomes research studies, patient-reported outcomes research, retrospective and prospective data analyses, transplant research, or health services research is required. Candidate must demonstrate efficient planning and execution of research strategies; excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; and the ability to perform effectively both independently and as a team member.
- Experience in working with large datasets including electronic health records, medical claims and insurance data ·
- Clinical knowledge and familiarity with concepts in medicine and surgery is highly desired ·
- Previous mentoring experience at the graduate level is desired ·
- Previous experience in preparing research proposals and grant applications
· 2 or more publications as the primary author - At least 2 years of research related experience including study design, data analysis and preparation of scientifically sound manuscripts; a doctorate or other advanced degree can be substituted for research related experience ·
