Job Description

The Vice President, Genome Technologies is responsible for providing scientific, strategic and operational leadership for the New York Genome Center’s genome technology enterprise, encompassing high‑throughput research sequencing, single‑cell and spatial genomics, emerging multiomic technologies, laboratory automation, and technology innovation. This person will lead NYGC’s genome technology strategy and operations, integrating cutting‑edge innovation with large‑scale, high‑throughput execution to enable transformative, collaborative science.

The Vice President will develop and execute a long‑term technology strategy that positions NYGC at the forefront of genome science while ensuring operational excellence in support of large‑scale collaborative research, institutional initiatives, and externally funded programs. As a recognized scientific leader, the Vice President will contribute intellectually to the Center's research direction, foster strategic partnerships, and lead the development of innovative genomic technologies and research programs.

Working closely with the Scientific Director & CEO and other executive leaders, the Vice President will shape NYGC's scientific priorities, expand its national research portfolio, cultivate collaborations with academic, clinical, government, and industry partners, and help establish NYGC as a global leader in genome technologies and AI‑enabled genomic research.

This position serves as a member of the Executive Management Team and oversees the Center's Genome Technologies organization, including research sequencing, technology development, project management, laboratory operations, and associated scientific support functions.

Responsibilities Scientific Strategy, Leadership, and External Engagement
  • Provides scientific leadership and technical expertise to shape major institutional initiatives, partnerships, and collaborative research programs.
  • Serves as a scientific thought partner in defining NYGC’s research direction, including emerging opportunities in genomics, sequencing technologies, and large‑scale data generation.
  • Builds and sustains multi‑institutional collaborations with academia, healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and industry.
  • Plays a central role in developing and leading NIH and other grant applications, serving as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co‑PI on major proposals.
  • Represents the Center externally as a scientific leader to the genomics community, including NIH, other funding agencies, and key partners.
  • Contributes to the development of consortia, partnerships, and collaborative research programs that expand NYGC’s scientific and funding footprint.
  • Advances a strategy focused on collaborative science and funded research, complementing service‑based sequencing activities.
  • Develops a multi‑year technology roadmap that anticipates emerging scientific opportunities and positions NYGC as a leader in genome technologies.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and implements transformative technologies spanning sequencing, single‑cell, spatial, long‑read, genome engineering, multiomic, and future genomic platforms.
  • Establishes strategic partnerships with biotechnology companies to provide NYGC investigators and collaborators with early access to emerging technologies.
  • Partners closely with computational scientists and AI researchers to develop datasets and technology platforms that accelerate AI‑enabled genome interpretation and biological discovery.
  • Partners closely with NYGC faculty to align technology development with investigator‑initiated science and institutional priorities, ensuring strong integration between platform capabilities and internal research programs.
  • Promotes high‑impact collaborative publications that showcase NYGC's scientific and technological leadership.
Research Operations Strategy and Execution
  • Provides scientific and operational leadership for NYGC's genome technology platforms, ensuring they remain at the forefront of scientific innovation and support the Center's evolving research priorities.
