DescriptionThe Assistant Research Scientist, part-time non-exempt, will assist in developing automated methods for data entry and data collection associated with micro computed tomographic scans from rhesus macaque skulls from Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico housed in the Department of Anthropology in the CPRC-NYU skeletal collection. The role will use machine learning and advanced statistical methods to quantify and reconstruct skeletal and dental tissue (including dental tissue loss).
This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.
The preferred start date is July 27. The position is for 2 months at 20 hours per week.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $28-$32 per hour. NYU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

QualificationsThe ideal candidate has prior experience in an anthropological research environment, working with CT scans of skeletal material, and skills in machine learning and statistical methods.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required;
Master's in Data Science preferred
