Overview

The Lappalainen & Sanjana Labs at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, computational biologists, bioengineers, and human geneticists. The successful candidate will be jointly mentored by Drs. Tuuli Lappalainen and Neville Sanjana and may be affiliated with New York University.

About the labs

The Sanjana lab works at the intersection of genomics and bioengineering, developing new technologies to understand biological systems and applying them to gain insights into genomes and neural systems function. The Lappalainen lab studies functional genetic variation in human populations by analyzing how variants affect molecular and cellular traits and how these changes contribute to genetic risk for diseases. Both labs employ computational analyses and experimental approaches, spanning statistical genetics, genomics, and functional genomics.

Position

overview

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to study the impact of human genetic variation on gene expression and phenotypes at cellular, tissue, and physiological levels. The role combines computational and wet-lab work with co-mentorship from both PIs and membership in both labs. Projects may include cutting-edge human genetics and genome technology development, with possible work in CRISPR and single-cell multi-omics, integrating with GWAS and eQTL data, including data from Developmental GTEx.

The position may involve extending STING-seq to new cell types (including primary cells) and developing next-generation genome editing approaches, as well as contributing to new project development in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform research tasks independently; regularly write and present findings.
  • Engage in projects at the intersection of computational genetics and experimental methods, including genome technology development.
  • Work with CRISPR, single-cell multi-omics, and integration with GWAS/eQTL data; contribute to methodological and tool development.
  • Collaborate within a team science environment across two labs and affiliated institutions.
Qualifications
  • PhD or MD-PhD (or equivalent) with prior research experience in molecular biology, statistical genetics, biochemistry, computational biology, or functional genomics.
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications and ability to plan and carry out research tasks independently.
  • Flexible to develop computational or experimental skills; able to adapt to cutting-edge methods in a collaborative setting.
Application materials
  • CV with a list of publications.
  • Short summary of present and future research interests.
  • List of three references and their contact information.
