Job Description
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position in the Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation under the mentorship of Arielle Tambini at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI). Our research focuses on the neural mechanisms supporting human memory consolidation and how they are shaped by ongoing brain dynamics, using multimodal approaches to characterize and manipulate human brain function.
This position is funded by our R01 on awake memory reactivation, which investigates how memory consolidation mechanisms systematically vary across awake time periods (e.g., distinct cognitive states) using dense fMRI, physiological recordings, behavioral measures, and external causal manipulations (e.g., TMS, behavioral manipulations). This work has implications for approaches to strategically modulate memory in health and disease.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a key role in the scientific development of this program, contributing to study design, overseeing data quality assessment, and developing data analysis projects on both prospective and existing datasets. They will have the opportunity to mentor Research Assistants on data collection and analysis projects. We offer a close, collaborative mentorship relationship with regular engagement on conceptual and analytical questions, and expect the postdoctoral researcher to take ownership of projects within the research program.
Job Duties- Work both independently and collaboratively, taking ownership of analysis projects while contributing to a team-oriented research environment
- Contribute to the conceptual design and implementation of NIH-funded studies on awake memory consolidation
- Oversee data quality monitoring and preprocessing of fMRI, physiology, and behavioral data
- Develop and execute novel, advanced data analysis projects on prospective and existing datasets with collaborative input
- Drive manuscript preparation and publication of research findings
- Mentor Research Assistants on data collection protocols and analysis projects
- Participate in lab meetings and contribute to the broader intellectual life of the research group
- Present research findings at national and international conferences
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of professional research in an appropriate field or master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of the experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field
- Strong background in human memory research, cognitive neuroscience, or a closely related area demonstrated by track-record of publications
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop and execute novel analysis approaches on complex datasets
- Scientific programming experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced fMRI analysis approaches, including but not limited to multivoxel pattern analysis, temporal dynamics, functional connectivity
- Experience with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) or other noninvasive human brain stimulation methods
- Familiarity with multimodal data integration approaches, EEG and/or physiological data collection…
