The Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies (CLACLS) at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) has an open position for a Research Associate (Postdoctoral Fellow) starting in fall 2026 and ending in August 2027 with a possibility of renewal for one year subject to availability of funding. The Center seeks applicants familiar with Latino Studies and interested in collaborating with the CLACLS daily activities, including research, fellowships, and events.

The role of the Research Associate (Postdoctoral Fellow) is integral to the yearly running of the Center. The Research Associate (Postdoctoral Fellow) will be expected to attend and contribute to the CLACLS events and publications. Duties will also include active involvement with other Center initiatives, such as organizing conferences and symposia, and liaising with community organizations and scholars.

The incumbent will report to the Associate Director of the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies. They will also be affiliated with the Ph.D. Program in Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Cultures (LAILAC).

The Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies works to promote the study and understanding of Latin American and Caribbean cultures and the communities established in the United States by peoples from this vast and extraordinarily diverse region with a special focus on the New York City metropolitan area, and more broadly on the United States.

As part of its mission, CLACLS organizes public forums, lectures, symposia, and academic conferences, and Latinos in the U.S. at the graduate level of post- graduate study. CLACLS was inaugurated in October 2001 with the support of a broad cross-section of Latin American and Latino-studies faculty specialists representing academic disciplines in the arts, social sciences, and humanities from every CUNY college.

The Ph.D. Program in Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Cultures (LAILAC) combines outstanding academics with cultural and literary activities to create a dynamic scholarly setting for our students. As a part of The Graduate Center, a unique institution devoted primarily to doctoral studies and committed to excellence, diversity, and innovative research, LAILAC participates in The Graduate Center’s mission of drawing on and contributing “to the complex communities of New York City and beyond.”

• Conducts research in the field of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies.
• Writes calls for application, edits, and oversees fellowship programs such as the Latino Data Project Fellowship, the Reportage Fellowship, and the Summer Travel Grants.
• Collaborates with internal and external colleagues in grant applications, events organization, outreach and advertising.
• Supports and collaborates with CLACLS initiatives such as its podcast, social media presence, and newsletter.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 80% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 8 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 8 days in-person, 2 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
