Position Summary

The full-time Research Coordinator will work with Dr. Suzan Walters, Assistant Professor at the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, Department of Population Health to carry out research-related tasks specific to Dr. Walters National Institute of Health funded projects and other research projects. Dr. Walters research focuses on the social and structural determinants of health among populations who use drugs. She leads the Resilience, Intersectional Stigma, and Empowerment (RISE) Lab, which is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how different types of stigma impact access to services, engagement with care, and health outcomes for people navigating substance use, mental health, and other challenges.

The Research Coordinator will be primarily responsible for (a) assisting with research tasks including data collection, data analysis, conducting literature reviews, preparing scientific manuscripts, and drafting policy briefs; and (b) supporting project management and administration, including managing project timelines and deliverables, overseeing IRB and grant documentation, and related duties. The Research Coordinator will be integrated into a vibrant and diverse community of analysts, doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff in the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy (COEP).

COEP serves as a central source of research on the United States rapidly shifting overdose epidemic. COEP seeks to inform evidence-based policies to prevent opioid misuse, disorder and overdose in populations nationally and globally. As a member of COEP and the wider Department of Population Health, the Research Coordinator will have access to monthly open analyst meetings, career development sessions, journal clubs, seminars, research meetings and events, and more.

Job Responsibilities

Participate in primary data collection activities, including participant outreach, recruitment, informed consent and conducting surveys and interviews.

Oversee grant and Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, documentation and reporting procedures.

Conduct literature reviews for ongoing research projects and new grant proposals.

Manage administrative aspects of multiple research projects, including coordinating service agreements with collaborators and service providers, ordering supplies and equipment and processing study-related payments, maintaining compliance with the institutions Business Expense Policy.

Contribute to mixed methods data analysis tasks, including qualitative coding and data analysis.

Help prepare manuscripts for publication and grant submissions, including drafting sections, managing data tables and reference lists.

Assist with project management tasks, including agenda setting, timeline and deliverable tracking, meeting coordination, note-taking, action-item follow-up, and maintaining organized project documentation across collaborators.

Manage REDCap databases and related study tracking systems, including survey administration, participant tracking, data entry workflows, data-quality checks, and reporting.

Prepare presentations and reports for collaborators, including data reports/graphs and research summaries for non-academic stakeholders.

Help coordinate scientific events and meetings.

Assist Dr. Walters in carrying out a range of projects in the RISE Lab, maintaining a thorough knowledge of research studies, procedures and deliverables.

Be part of the larger fabric of the NYU Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, participating in center activities and discussions around substance use research.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree in life sciences, allied health or equivalent in a related discipline and 2 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Must be able to work under the direction of supervision. Ability to operate research related equipment. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook.
