Senior Research Analyst (Staff Associate III)

Salary: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 Annually

The purpose of this position is to conduct research and analysis across projects for the Center on Poverty and Social Policy. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for leading reports and analyses using data from the Poverty Tracker in order to meet the project’s contract goals. Additionally, the incumbent of this position will lead other data analysis projects associated with the Center on Poverty and Social Policy’s federal and state policy research portfolio, including original academic research, policy simulations, and joint reports with external partners.

The incumbent will also lead project teams around individual deliverables and supervise hourly student research assistants.

  • Proactively develop and execute research projects (including question development, data analysis plans, analysis, and writing) that are relevant to policy discussions in New York City or at the national and state levels; independently lead and execute these projects (25%)
  • Independently propose, execute, and draft research projects in areas of subject matter expertise related to social and public policy, as well as poverty measurement (25%)
  • Supervise student research assistants in the execution on research projects (10%)
  • Actively develop further subject matter expertise and knowledge of latest technologies and statistical programming techniques by engaging with the broader policy and research community and leading literature reviews of relevant research produced by academic institutions and policy organizations (10%)
  • Assist PI with completion of academic peer-review manuscripts and related documents and deliverables (10%)
  • Communicate research findings in an accessible manner to press and advocacy organizations, and developing and maintain partnerships with external policy organizations(10%)
  • Present research findings to academic and policy audiences in the context of conferences and/or testimonies to public bodies. (5%)
  • Other responsibilities as needed (5%)
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social science field (e.g., economics, sociology, political science, social work, psychology, or other social science field), Master’s degree preferred.

Four to six years of experience conducting social science research required.

Computer skills including proficiency with and broad understanding of Microsoft Office and software for data management and/or data analysis (Stata/R); demonstrated organizational skills; demonstrated initiative; attention to detail.
