Are you ready to advance your scientific research career? Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong work behaviors to join our team as a Scientist II within our Cell Biology team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to research projects with the potential to make a significant impact in the scientific community.
What will you do?
- Design experimental plans with guidance, execute studies, analyze experimental data, quantitative analyses and data summaries.
- Execute mammalian cell line development workflows, including transfection, stable pool generation, selection, single-cell cloning, clone screening, and data analysis.
- Develop and characterize recombinant mammalian cell lines for bioproduction, including assessment of growth, productivity, expression stability, and product quality.
- Work on complex problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems associated with various types of R&D projects.
- Exercise practical judgment within broadly defined practices and policies and exhibit creativity and foresight in selecting approaches and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Interact closely with other internal departments (i.e., Marketing, Business Development, Quality, Operations) in commercializing new products and customer and business support.
- Maintain an accurate lab notebook to support the protection of intellectual property following relevant Thermo Fisher required standards.
Education:
- Master's degree in biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or other related field, or equivalent knowledge and relevant experience preferred; open to Bachelor's degree with 2 plus years of relevant experience
- Expertise in the methods and techniques of mammalian cell culture and cell line development (i.e., shake flasks, deep well plates, single-cell cloning platforms, ambr
15 micro-bioreactors, etc.).
Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficiency in aseptic mammalian cell culture techniques, stable transfection, selection, single-cell cloning, and molecular biology methods.
- Solid understanding of data analysis and statistical software (e.g., JMP, Graph Pad). Demonstrated ability to interpret complex datasets and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Competence in research design, cell line development troubleshooting, and evaluating new techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience generating and characterizing stable recombinant mammalian cell lines, including evaluation of growth, productivity, and stability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cell line development platforms and clone isolation/screening technologies (e.g., limiting dilution, single-cell dispensing, FACS, or imaging-based systems).
- Prior industrial experience, particularly in cell line development, upstream process development and/or cell culture media formulation development.
- Understanding of factors influencing mammalian cell growth, recombinant protein expression, productivity, and genetic stability
- Previous experience with cell lines used in bioproduction (e.g., CHO and HEK)
- Familiarity with cell banking, cryopreservation, cell line characterization, and the operation of bench-top stirred tank bioreactors and related process development laboratory equipment.
