SummaryMomentive seeks a motivated undergraduate chemistry student with hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry to join the Tire and Rubber Technology Team as a Summer Intern. The successful candidate will support the development and synthesis of novel silane molecules for tire and rubber applications. Working alongside experienced synthetic chemists, the intern will contribute to laboratory research, molecular characterization, and process development while gaining exposure to industrial R&D practices.
ResponsibilitiesInclude
- Synthesize and Characterize Experimental Silane Molecules
- Support the synthesis of new silane molecules and intermediates.
- Assist in the characterization, purification, preparation, and shipment of materials for performance evaluation.
- Participate in optimizing synthetic procedures under the guidance of experienced chemists.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Follow established safety practices for handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
- Conduct literature reviews to support project objectives and expand technical knowledge.
- Contribute ideas and assist in developing synthetic approaches for target molecules.
- Work with team members to troubleshoot reaction and product quality issues.
- Participate in technical discussions and project reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to support research objectives.
Minimum Qualifications / Competencies
- Pursuing a B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at the time of application and throughout the internship.
- Coursework and/or laboratory experience in organic chemistry.
- Experience conducting synthetic organic chemistry reactions in an academic research lab, undergraduate research program, or advanced laboratory coursework.
- Strong laboratory safety awareness and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Silicon chemistry experience is a plus but not required.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship. The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.
Education RequirementCurrently pursuing a B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline. Completion of Organic Chemistry I and II strongly preferred. Undergraduate research experience in synthetic organic chemistry preferred.
What We OfferBase Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00. The base salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
