The Center for Data Science at New York University (NYU) invites applications for an exceptional Research Scientist as part of the Polymathic AI initiative, focused on foundation models for computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
As part of our team, you'll collaborate with leading researchers from diverse scientific domains, pushing the boundaries of AI to solve some of the most pressing scientific challenges in CFD. With access to competitive computational resources, we offer an exciting multidisciplinary environment where machine learning meets real-world scientific impact.
The selected candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team based in New York , spanning NYU and the Flatiron Institute, composed of machine learning researchers, engineers, and domain scientists. This collaborative environment offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting edge AI models.
What You'll Do:
Conduct cutting-edge research applying AI methods to science
Work closely with experts in AI and CFD
Contribute to the development of interpretable and high-performing AI models
Develop and train large AI models for CFD
Collaborate and/or mentor other students, postdocs, Software Engineers, Research Analysts and Research Scientists
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the full-time annual compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $250,000, depending on experience.

This full-time, fixed-term position is based on-site at NYU's Center for Data Science in New York City, with an initial one-year appointment and potential for extension.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in a relevant field
Expected skills/functions:
- Engage in research and train large AI models for science
- Generate new large scientific datasets
- Develop and maintain complex codebases
- Read literature and integrate research across AI and scientific domains
