Staff Associate I - Department of Systems Biology
Yufeng Shen lab (http://www.columbia.edu/~ys2411/) in the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University is seeking a full-time bioinformatics analyst for a Staff Associate I position. The Staff Associate I will provide support in large-scale genomic data analysis and computational tools for a multi-disciplinary research team of computational and clinical scientists.
Responsibilities include:
Provide support for analyzing genome sequencing data in genetic studies of human diseases and conditions;
Maintain and optimize foundational bioinformatics pipelines and workflows for genomics analysis, especially annotation for coding and non-coding variants;
Maintain and optimize quality control procedures;
Manage genomic data sets.
- a. Functional Knowledge - 30% Knowledge of Genome annotation and functional and genetic impacts of noncoding variants and genome language models.
- b. Problem Solving - 50% Utilizes analytical skills to solve genome benchmarking problems for genetic analysis and possible genetic data solutions based on guidleines, protocols, and procedures.
- c. Decision Making/Autonomy - 10% Works within guidelines to carry out assigned duties in the design of apparatus, the adaptation of relevant technology to the needs of a project, the conduct of specific computational and statistical experiments, and the analysis of data.
- d. Technical Expertise - 5% Ability to operate and maintain equiptment, computers, software programs such as python and research tools in support of the project.
- e. Communication - 5% Shares information and confirmation of data.
- -Bachelor’s degree in computational biology or a similar major required.
- -Four years experience in projects with data science or machine learning as a core component preferred
