Location: New York
Hotel Barrière is looking for a qualified Sommelier to manage all aspects of wine and beverage service. You will be responsible for maintaining a high level of customer service, as well as recommending food pairings for wine. As a Sommelier, you should possess extensive wine knowledge, excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail. The primary goal is to ensure that customers always receive high-quality wine service in an elegant and courteous manner.
Responsibilities- Develop a detailed menu and wine list with prices based on the factors such as location, target audience, cuisine type, seasonality and month of the year.
- Oversee the inventory of wines stored at the restaurant.
- Identify profitable wines that will match with the menu.
- Work with the managers to design special events for wine tastings and pairing dinners.
- Work closely with suppliers to select wines which meet or exceed high-quality standards.
- Serve customers by providing recommendations based on their preferences and price range.
- Ensure that wines are stored at optimal temperature in order to maintain quality for longer.
- Manage the relationship with suppliers in order to offer a variety of wines at competitive prices.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- The Sommelier will report directly to the Chef Sommelier and the Director of Food & Beverage.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all wine, saké, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas and sodas and all non-alcoholic beverages.
- Provide guest assistance, direction and information as requested when working in public areas.
- Assist in all other aspects of service as needed to support team members.
- Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
- Willing to work a flexible schedule, late nights and holidays as necessary
- Be able to relate to all levels of guests and management
- Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in similar position, or proper certification
- Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
- Have excellent communication and organization skills
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for a long periods of time
Salary: $25 - $35 per hour + tips
