Position SummaryThe Food and Nutrition Services Aide supports the daily operations of RECAP's Head Start Food and Nutrition Services by assisting with food preparation, meal production, sanitation, meal service, meal delivery, and related kitchen activities.
This position works closely with the Food and Nutrition Services Manager and Cook to ensure meals are prepared, handled, stored, and delivered safely and efficiently in accordance with established food safety, nutrition, sanitation, dietary, and program requirements.
The Food and Nutrition Services Aide may provide backup Cook coverage during absences or as assigned to ensure continuity of food service operations. This position requires dependable attendance, attention to detail, teamwork, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced food service environment.
Essential Functions Food Preparation and Meal Service- Assist with food preparation, meal production, portioning, and serving in collaboration with the Cook.
- Follow established menus, recipes, portion requirements, and food preparation procedures.
- Assist with the preparation of meals and snacks in accordance with applicable dietary and nutritional requirements.
- Follow established procedures for food allergies, special diets, and dietary accommodations.
- Assist with meal delivery to designated locations.
- Provide backup Cook coverage during absences or as assigned to ensure uninterrupted food service operations.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down meal service areas.
- Ensure food is properly handled, covered, stored, and transported.
- Monitor food service areas and promptly communicate concerns or supply needs to the Cook or supervisor.
- Follow all established food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and infection-control procedures.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen, food preparation, storage, and meal service areas.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, work surfaces, and other food service items.
- Properly handle and dispose of food waste and garbage.
- Follow proper procedures for washing, sanitizing, and storing dishes, utensils, and equipment.
- Properly label, store, and handle food and kitchen supplies.
- Follow established food temperature and food handling procedures.
- Safely use cleaning and sanitizing products in accordance with established procedures.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Immediately report food safety, sanitation, health, safety, equipment, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with maintaining accurate food service records and documentation.
- Assist with allergy postings and documentation of dietary accommodations.
- Assist with inventory and monitoring of food, supplies, and kitchen materials.
- Communicate supply needs and inventory concerns to the Cook or supervisor.
- Assist with receiving, checking, organizing, and storing food deliveries.
- Complete assigned food service checklists and documentation accurately and timely.
- Maintain confidentiality of client, family, employee, and program information.
- Deliver meals and food supplies to designated locations as assigned.
- Perform daily driving duties as required.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and comply with RECAP's Driver Safety requirements.
- Operate agency vehicles safely and responsibly when authorized.
- Follow all applicable traffic laws and agency vehicle procedures.
- Assist the Cook and Food and Nutrition Services Manager with daily food service operations.
- Assist with receiving, storing, organizing, and handling food and kitchen supplies.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment and use food preparation tools and utensils.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and workshops as assigned.
- Follow all RECAP policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable food service regulations.
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with clients, coworkers, vendors, and community partners.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Services Manager, Cook, or supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in food service, institutional food service, childcare food service, or a similar environment preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation, sanitation, hygiene, and food safety practices preferred.
