About this opportunityThe Associate Sourcing Manager provides sourcing and operational support on all aspects of the Product Life Cycle from development to delivery. Reporting to a Director of Sourcing, this role is the liaison between the Agent/Vendor/Overseas office and the Merchant. The Associate will be responsible for delivering products that are in line with the brand aesthetic, quality, and value that meet the Merchant objectives.
The base salary range for this role is $67,600‑$84,000, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, and location. This range is one component of the total compensation package; other rewards vary by position and location.
What you will do and what you will learn- Perform operational functions supporting designated product categories and assist the Sourcing team in product development from initial design concept to placement, production, and shipment.
- Anticipate potential problems and risks; generate ideas, insights, and solutions; and propose them to the Director.
- Maintain a critical eye for product and raw materials, receive and assess samples for aesthetic and overall quality, and assist in product/cost engineering and resolution of any cost challenges.
- Monitor milestone calendars to ensure deadlines are met, flag issues, and provide timely updates to the team.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and agents to ensure on‑time shipments; troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.
- Keep product knowledge current by shopping the competition, Ross stores, and the market; recommend additions to the Ross assortment based on learnings and demonstrate an understanding of price‑value relationships.
- Initiate new resource discoveries and creative sourcing methods to positively impact the assortment.
- Partner with the Director on onboarding new suppliers, countries, and factories.
- Provide accurate data to merchants for purchase order issuance and ensure completeness before sending POs to vendors.
- Support continual development and refinement of workflow, processes, and tools in partnership with the Director.
- Establish and cultivate strong relationships with all internal and external business partners.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3+ years of sourcing experience in product development/sourcing/merchandising within a large retail chain; participation in a retail training program is a plus.
- Knowledge of the product development and production process, including technical aspects of the product (materials, machinery, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in negotiating and influencing.
- Proficiency in retail math.
- Strong critical thinking with a solution‑focused approach; ability to independently analyze information and make recommendations.
