Assistant Store Manager – Bleecker Location

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for leading the store team in close partnership with the Store Manager to ensure that all company objectives are achieved. The role focuses on customer service excellence, client development, visual merchandising, and operational standards. The Assistant also handles staff recruitment, coaching, training, and, when the Store Manager is absent, oversees all store and staff functions as the senior presence in the store.

Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Set the example for exceptional customer service and store standards.
  • Act as a James Perse brand ambassador.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to drive and motivate the team to exceed sales goals and store KPIs.
  • Enforce company standards and policies, holding staff accountable with the Store Manager and Human Resources.
  • Ensure the store team has fluency in product knowledge, company history, brand values, and consistent brand messaging.
  • Identify product, sales, and team development opportunities and present strategic ideas to the Store Manager.
  • Maintain local market knowledge of clientele, brand competitors, and business trends.
  • Suggest and pursue appropriate local community partnerships with the Store Manager and Regional Director.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to achieve business objectives.
Sales
  • Coach and guide the staff to achieve and exceed individual sales goals and company KPIs (UPT, ADT, etc.).
  • Prioritize customers as the number one store priority.
  • Assist sales associates in suggesting merchandise through styling and product knowledge.
  • Integrate the James Perse lifestyle into the selling ceremony.
  • Develop client base through proactive networking and training.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to create and execute sales‑maximizing strategies.
Customer Experience
  • Ensure staff consistently prioritize the customer experience.
  • Lead clienteling activities and measure success.
  • Attend to all clients in fitting rooms, ensuring correct sizes and seamless POS execution.
  • Elevate customer service to differentiate the James Perse brand.
  • Support staff in creatively individualizing customer interactions.
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints satisfactorily.
Staff Management and Development
  • Manage all aspects of the business in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Conduct store meetings in partnership with the Store Manager.
  • Ensure staff adhere to wardrobe and floor presence standards.
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of top talent.
  • Communicate company expectations and monitor goal achievement.
  • Hold staff accountable through coaching, counseling, and performance appraisals.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Open and close the store, performing all procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and adherence to store and back‑of‑house standards.
  • Lead visual merchandising and ensure standards are upheld.
  • Process merchandise movements, replenishment, and inventory counts.
  • Complete weekly and daily reporting for Corporate.
  • Manage timekeeping in partnership with the Store Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies for transfers, pricing, shipping, and receiving.
Principal Skills, Knowledge, and Personal Attributes
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office).
  • Experience with Teamwork or similar retail systems.
  • Foreign language skills a plus.
  • Ideal candidate has an established clientele following.
  • Willingness to relocate for career growth.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3–4 years in retail sales or a related field, with at least 2 years of supervisory responsibility (more if high volume store).
Education
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
  • College Degree Preferred.

Pay Transparency

This position pays $80,000 annually plus a potential monthly bonus based on store sales.
