The Merchandiser is responsible for developing and optimizing product assortments for Walmart and Target across the intimates category. This role serves as the category merchandising expert, leveraging sales analytics, consumer insights, competitive intelligence, cost/retail trends to build profitable assortments that align with retailer strategies and drive business growth.
The Merchandiser partners closely with Sales, Planning, Merchandising, Production, Packaging, and Sales Operations teams to ensure flawless execution across all customer platforms. This role serves as a key support function for account growth while developing a strong understanding of retail processes, merchandising strategies, and omnichannel business management.
Responsibilities:Assortment Strategy & Category Management
- Develop seasonal assortment recommendations for Walmart and Target based on sales performance, consumer trends, retailer strategies, and financial objectives.
- Analyze SKU productivity, distribution, productivity by door, inventory performance, and margin to optimize assortments.
- Identify assortment gaps, white space opportunities, SKU rationalization, and opportunities for innovation.
- Recommend new product introductions, color expansions, size recommendations, packaging enhancements, and product exits.
- Maintain long-term assortment strategies that support category growth and retailer objectives.
- Create and maintain retailer planograms, modular layouts, and shelf presentations for Walmart and Target.
- Optimize shelf allocation, peg flow, fixture utilization, and product placement to maximize sales productivity.
- Partner with Packaging and Design to ensure assortments align with fixture requirements and packaging specifications.
- Support modular transitions and assortment resets from concept through retailer implem
- Develop a thorough understanding of product costing, retail pricing, and gross margin to support profitable assortment decisions.
- Evaluate the financial impact of assortment recommendations, balancing retailer expectations with company profitability.
- Partner with Production, Sourcing, and Planning to understand cost changes and margin implications throughout product development.
- Support pricing strategies through competitive benchmarking and retail price architecture analysis.
- Provide recommendations that optimize retail pricing, margin, and perceived consumer value.
- Conduct regular competitive shopping across mass retail stores and digital channels.
- Monitor competitive assortments, pricing, packaging, promotions, product innovation, and merchandising strategies.
- Use Scintilla Shopper Behavior & Circana to track category trends within the retail landscape to identify opportunities for growth and market share expansion.
- Prepare competitive recaps and market trend analyses for internal business reviews.
- Stay informed on retailer merchandising strategies, category resets, and emerging consumer trends.
- Partner with Design to influence future product development based on customer insights and market opportunities.
- Collaborate with Merchandise Planning, Production, Packaging, and Sourcing to ensure assortments are executable and financially viable.
- Support Sales during customer presentations by providing category expertise, assortment recommendations, and competitive insights.
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in sales support, account management, merchandising, planning or retail operations
- Experience working with major retailers preferred (Walmart, Target, Nordstrom, Amazon)
- Strong Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and opportunities within data
Annual salary range starting at $90,000+.
