About the RoleThis is a highly creative, highly hands‑on leadership position.
We're looking for someone who can dream up an idea in the morning and be
painting, building, installing, and merchandising it by the afternoon. Someone
equally comfortable sketching a floor plan, directing a team, building a display
wall, styling product, or climbing a ladder to install a window.
As Visual Merchandising Lead, you'll own the visual experience across Fishs Eddy
—from brick and mortar, shop‑in‑shops, pop‑ups, and wholesale environments.
You’ll work directly with our Founder, Julie Gaines, and Chief Brand Officer, Tara
Johnson, and the VM team in helping evolve one of New York's most beloved
retail brands while protecting everything that makes it unique.
What You’ll DoLead the Fishs Eddy ExperienceOwn the visual merchandising strategy across all retail environments.
Translate product launches, seasons, collaborations, and campaigns into
compelling in‑store stories.
Develop visual concepts that are distinctly Fishs Eddy—unexpected,
humorous, nostalgic, and memorable.
Maintain and evolve the visual identity of our flagship store while
expanding the experience into new locations.
Design & ExecuteDesign, build, paint, fabricate, install, and merchandise displays.
Create iconic window displays that stop people in their tracks.
Style tables, shelving, feature areas, and promotional moments.
Produce hand‑painted signage and visual elements that reflect the Fishs
Eddy personality.
Source props, materials, fixtures, and creative display solutions.
Build the FutureDevelop merchandising standards for new stores, pop‑ups, shop‑in‑shops,
and wholesale partners.
Create planograms, merchandising guides, visual standards, and
Ensure every Fishs Eddy location feels cohesive while allowing each space
to have its own personality.
Partner with store leadership to ensure consistent execution.
Manage and mentor a growing visual merchandising team.
Plan installations, timelines, budgets, and seasonal rollouts.
Coordinate with Marketing, Creative, Retail Operations, and Product teams.
Balance multiple projects while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Roll up your sleeves whenever needed—this is a leadership role built on
doing.
What We’re Looking For5+ years of visual merchandising experience in specialty retail, lifestyle,
home, design, or experiential retail.
Proven experience leading visual merchandising projects from concept
through execution.
Experience developing merchandising standards, planograms, and retail
visual guidelines.
Strong understanding of product styling, storytelling, and customer flow.
Excellent project management and timeline planning skills.
Experience managing installations across multiple locations.
Comfortable building, painting, fabricating, and installing displays
yourself.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing creative teams.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a fast‑moving entrepreneurial environment.
Bonus Pointscommunication, fine art, or fabrication.
Experience with shop-in-shop environments or multi-store retail concepts.
Sign painting, illustration, woodworking, prop fabrication, or other hands‑
Experience opening new retail stores.
Familiarity with Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
Most Importantly…You appreciate that our stores aren't polished—they're full of personality.
You know the difference between merchandising products and telling stories.
You love creating spaces that surprise people, make them laugh, and make them
want to explore every shelf.
You aren't afraid to get paint on your clothes, move furniture, build something
from scratch, or spend the day on a ladder if that's what it takes to create
