Store Manager, Brooklyn Made Store at City Point
Brooklyn Made Stores, a program of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Downtown Brooklyn, on site Full time, 35 hours per week, hourly $28.00 to $33.00 per hour, depending on experience
About usThe Brooklyn Made Store, an initiative of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, celebrates the rich diversity of Brooklyn through products and brands that are conceived and created here. Brooklyn Made means many things, but at its core, it reflects the dynamic history of a borough shaped by centuries of migration, culture, and creativity.
Almost everything on our shelves was made by somebody within a few miles of the store. When a product sells well here, a small business in Brooklyn has a better month. We run two permanent retail locations, an online store, a corporate gifting program, and seasonal activations around the borough.
The roleWe are looking for a Store Manager for our City Point location in Downtown Brooklyn.
You would run the store day to day. That covers the team, the schedule, how customers are treated, how the floor looks, and the sales number at the end of the month. You would lead three to five associates, with extra help over the holidays. A good chunk of the job is teaching them the work.
Buying and assortment for City Point happen in partnership with our Head of Retail, who you would report to. You bring what you see on the floor. What is selling, what is sitting, what customers keep asking for that we do not carry. You sit in on seasonal buy planning. The Head of Retail sets the plan and places the orders.
You will also meet plenty of the makers whose products you are selling.
- Build the weekly schedule against the labor budget and the way traffic actually moves through the store
- Train associates on selling, product knowledge, and service, and give them feedback they can use
- Own the sales number at City Point and be able to explain it using conversion, average transaction, and units per transaction
- Execute merchandising direction, keep the floor full, and make sure signage and pricing are right
- Handle receiving, cycle counts, transfers, cash handling, and daily close
- Bring the Head of Retail specific, timely input on sell through, stock outs, and category gaps ahead of buy deadlines
- Coordinate with makers on deliveries, restocks, and in store appearances
- Host in store events and support pop ups and seasonal activations
Where you have worked matters less to us than how you run a floor and treat the people on it.
- Three or more years of retail experience, including at least one year supervising others and owning a sales result
- Experience building schedules and managing hours against a budget
- Comfort with a retail point of sale and inventory system, including pulling and reading your own store reports
- Experience with receiving, inventory counts, and cash handling
- Ability to coach a team and hold a service standard consistently
- Weekend, evening, and holiday availability
- An equivalent mix of education, training, and experience will be considered
Shopify POS, visual merchandising experience, specialty or multi vendor retail, or a connection to Brooklyn's small business, maker, or artist communities. Apply if you have some of it and not all of it.
Schedule and physical requirementsThirty five hours per week across five days, including regular weekend shifts. Evening and holiday availability is required during peak retail periods and extended mall hours. Schedules are published in advance.
The role involves standing and walking for most of a shift, reaching, bending, and occasional ladder use, and lifting or moving merchandise and fixtures up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable…
