Gallery of Scent Retail Associate

The role

We're looking for a full-time Retail Associate to join us at the Element Brooklyn Gallery of Scent in the South Street Seaport. The space is part refillery, part scent museum, part candle workshop – there's nothing else quite like it in the city.

This is a full-time role, Wednesday through Sunday, 11am–7pm. We're looking to fill it as soon as possible. Although the Gallery is a limited run (through the end of the year), we expect to open another retail location and this role will transition there – it can also transition for the right candidate to a role at our Bushwick warehouse.

• Welcome visitors and walk them through the scent gallery – 30 stations where guests explore perfumery ingredients
• Help customers create their personalized "Scent Portrait" and encourage them to share it
• Operate the refillery: guiding customers through our refillable soaps, helping them choose a vessel, and handling the refill process
• Support candle-making workshops – setup, welcoming attendees, assisting the workshop lead
• Run the POS and handle transactions
• Keep the space clean, well-merchandised, and restocked throughout your shift
• Help us document the space – we'll encourage you to grab photos and short videos that we can use on our channels

• Genuinely like people and can hold a conversation with anyone
• Are interested in fragrance, design, sustainability, or retail – and can learn our product range quickly enough to speak to it with confidence
• Are reliable and can commit to a Wednesday–Sunday schedule, 11am–7pm – note that this role covers both weekend days
• Are available to start right away
• Have some retail, hospitality, or customer-facing experience – not required, but helpful
• Can get up to speed with new tools (like POS systems) quickly
• Are based in NYC and can get to the Seaport easily

$25 per hour, 40 hours a week, plus the opportunity for a performance bonus tied to how the Gallery does overall. All full-time employees are eligible for health, dental and vision insurance and we offer 401k matching.
