AboutThe Position
We are expanding our department and seeking a Senior Specialist in the New York based Jewelry Department! This role focuses on developing a strong pipeline of consignments through private and business relationships, while leading client interactions and providing expert gemological assessments for auction and appraisal. In addition to supporting daily operations, the position contributes to national business development strategies and sales efforts, and serves as a key representative of the company at events and previews.
Responsibilities- Develop and grow a strong pipeline of consignments from private clients and business-to-business contacts
- Lead client interactions by assessing, authenticating, and negotiating jewelry for auction and appraisal
- Perform advanced gemological assessments, including grading, identification, and pricing of diamonds, colored stones, and signed jewelry
- Support the day-to-day operations of the department
- Guide cataloging, research, and pricing strategies to optimize sale performance and client satisfaction
- Partner with senior leadership to craft and implement strategies that drive national expansion, business development, and departmental success
- Conduct valuations for insurance, estate and auction purposes
- Serve as a public-facing ambassador for the company at previews and events
- Participate actively in sales efforts, from pre-auction promotion to live auction support and post-sale follow-up
- Full responsibility for Doyle’s monthly timed auction sales
- Graduate Gemologist (GIA) certification is required.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in the jewelry industry, including hands-on experience with valuation and pricing.
- A minimum of 5 years in an appraisal-focused role.
- Deep familiarity with all major categories of jewelry and strong market awareness.
- Prior experience in an auction house setting is highly desirable.

- Strong industry presence, with membership or active involvement in professional organizations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
