Public Fund Sales Director
Location:
Chicago, New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Hybrid role requiring at least three days a week in the office.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue targets and drive business growth within the public segment.
- Collaborate with senior management and other key stakeholders to define sales strategies, identify market opportunities, and develop innovative approaches to expand the client base in public sector markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, prospects, and industry influencers, leveraging these relationships to generate new business and enhance the organization's reputation.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes affecting the public segment, and incorporate this knowledge into sales strategies and client interactions.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of public segment solutions to clients.
- Monitor and analyze sales performance, pipeline management, and market trends, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.
- Contribute to identifying and advancing strategic growth opportunities supporting Mercer’s public segment expansion.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop and execute targeted marketing.
- Coordinate all sales activities related to RFP completion by securing necessary approvals from the Public Fund Vetting Committee (PFVC) along with associated form submissions, obtaining approvals from Public Fund Segment Leader and the Global Sales Pricing Group (GSPG) for deal pricing, and confirming the assignment of consulting teams.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CFP) are advantageous.
- Proven track record of success in sales leadership roles within the public sector or related industry.
- In-depth knowledge of public segment markets, investment strategies, and financial markets, including alternative investments, Defined Benefit (DB), Defined Contribution (DC), 529 plans, and Operating Reserves.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement processes, RFP management, and regulatory environments.
- A strong understanding of how alternative investments are evaluated, positioned, and sold within the public fund market, and the ability to engage credibly with highly technical investment buyers and research teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to clients and stakeholders.
- Strategic mindset, with the ability to develop and execute sales strategies that align with business objectives.
- Series 7 and 63 license.
- Demonstrated success driving new business within the public segment or related markets.
- Experience selling solutions‑oriented investment offerings to public plan clients, ideally in partnership with research, product, or specialist investment teams.
- Strong network and relationships with public sector decision makers and influencers.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $151,000–$302,500. Base pay offered will be determined based on experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for performance‑based incentives.
