FGI is a global leader in the commercial finance and services industry, equipping small and medium enterprises with the tools they need to safely grow their business. FGI’s three principal business units, FGI Finance, FGI Risk, and FGI Tech provide clients with flexible and customized lending along with risk mitigation and credit insurance solutions designed to support international and domestic growth.

Headquartered in New York City, FGI maintains a presence on 6 continents with clients in over 60 countries around the world.

The Business Development Associate will support the business development team in identifying new opportunities, building referral relationships, preparing materials, attending meetings and events, and helping move prospects through the early stages of the business development process. This position reports to the Business Development Officer and offers exposure to senior leaders, referral sources, prospects, and cross-functional deal teams.

The ideal candidate is proactive, curious, professional, and eager to learn. They should be comfortable engaging with people, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting a team that works closely with clients, referral sources, and internal deal professionals. This is a strong opportunity for someone looking to build a foundation in commercial finance and business development, deal origination, and client relationship management within a collaborative, growth-oriented company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the business development team with day-to-day activities, prospecting efforts, and pipeline management.
  • Research and identify new leads, referral sources, and market opportunities.
  • Assist with outreach to banks, investment banks, private equity firms, asset-based lenders, and other referral partners.
  • Help coordinate one-on-one meetings, prospect calls, networking events, and client-facing opportunities.
  • Prepare presentations, marketing materials, meeting notes, and follow-up communications.
  • Attend industry events and networking opportunities to help build FGI’s presence in the market.
  • Partner with internal business development and deal teams to support early-stage prospect discussions.
  • Under supervision, assist in structuring and discussing preliminary terms with prospects.
  • Maintain organized records of business development activity, contacts, and follow-up items.
  • Support additional initiatives that help drive growth across FGI’s business lines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; finance, business, marketing, or communications majors preferred.
  • Strong interest in commercial finance, lending, business development, or relationship management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other business software tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to travel regionally as needed.
  • Relevant internship or work experience in finance, sales, marketing, business development, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
Our Values:

We hire for values first. These are not aspirational - they describe how we operate.

  • Own It. We take full accountability for outcomes - not just effort.
  • Create the Path.

We are resourceful, creative, and resilient - bringing innovative thinking to solve problems for our clients and partners.
  • Win as a Team. Success only happens in teams - we are one and achieve more together.
