The Spine Service and the Department of Biomechanics at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a collaborative team of clinicians and biomechanical engineers in the study of spine biomechanics with an initial emphasis on spinopelvic biomechanics and kinematics. The fellowship is focused on developing a multidisciplinary approach integrating computer simulation, robotics, 3D imaging, and clinical data.
This translational research effort requires a fellow with strong technical aptitude, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams. Mentoring of the fellow will be shared between biomechanics and spine faculty ary is commensurate with training and experience.
We are seeking a fellow with the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Desire to rapidly learn new skills bridging disciplines to creatively solve problems in a dynamic and evolving work environment
- Strong organizational, project, and time management skills
- Independently motivated, self-directed, and solution-driven
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience using multibody dynamics (e.g., ADAMS, OpenSIM), and FEA software (e.g., ABAQUS)
- Expertise in scientific computing (e.g., MATLAB, Python), data visualization (e.g., Lab View), and design software (e.g., Solid Works, Creo)
- Experience in sensor instrumentation and real-time data acquisition
- Work closely with clinicians, scientists, research engineers, and students in designing, managing, and conducting computational and experimental spine research projects
- Integrate cadaver and patient-based spine biomechanics data with computational and statistical workflows
- Develop computer programs and scripts for computational modeling, data collection, processing, simulation, visualization, and analysis
- Custom programming of cadaveric robotic systems
- Imaging and image processing of patient and cadaveric tissues
- Prepare and maintain documentation of test protocols, code, and equipment
- Communicate results to a diverse group of engineers, surgeons, statisticians, and therapists through oral presentations at monthly group meetings
- Disseminate findings through presentation at national and international conferences and through publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
