Marine Program Assistant
The Marine Program Assistant works under general supervision as part of the Water Quality Division, providing support and technical assistance for education and research activities related to water quality.
Responsibilities- Conduct field work, including stormwater outfall monitoring, storm sewer system conveyance mapping, and surface water quality sampling on funded projects.
- Assist in public outreach efforts and routine laboratory work.
- Manage goose populations and perform data entry.
- Write project summary reports.
- Collaborate with Cornell Cooperative Extension staff such as stormwater and water quality specialists, educators, and technicians.
- Associate degree in biological or related sciences and at least 1 year of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 2 years of volunteer or work experience.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors, including in inclement weather.
- Reliability and ability to work independently as well as with others.
- Good communication and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability to understand and implement written and oral instructions.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with data entry and analysis.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to pass a motor‑vehicle screen process.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with the position.
- Ability to meet acceptable background‑check standards.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental sciences, hydrology, natural resource management, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience operating and trailering small motorboats.
- Experience working with GPS devices.
- Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
- One year of experience in stormwater or water‑quality related projects.
- Salary: $21.50–$31.50 per hour
- Schedule:
Non‑exempt – Regular: 40 hours per week - No relocation or visa sponsorship available
