Entry-Level Arborist – New York, NY
The position is expected to begin as soon as possible and is based in New York, NY.
Job DescriptionResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Documenting all phases of construction in and around city-owned trees.
- Providing oversight for excavation of sidewalks, installation of utility lines, and installation of new sidewalks around trees in the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
- Utilizing basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical projects with limited scope.
- Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Collecting and entering data and applying technical principles and theories.
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience and/or education.
- Must pass pre‑employment drug screening.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, personal vehicle, and the ability to navigate to and through Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
- Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions—including heat, cold, dust, and noise. The position requires frequent standing/walking, operation of vehicles, heavy/ moving equipment, occasional hand tool use, and working alone in isolated or remote areas. Keyboard/mouse operation and personal protective equipment—including safety shoes/boots, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, and high‑visibility vest—are also required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science.
- Excellent business writing, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills, and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Current Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.
- Previous internship or professional experience with natural resources, arborist‑landscaping, and/or construction oversight.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $62,000 to $80,000 annually.
