Introduction

The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan.

We are seeking a 9.4 Tesla MR Simulations Expert (MR Safety Simulation Specialist) to develop, validate, and support advanced Magnetic Resonance (MR) simulation environments focused on MRI ultra‑high‑field safety, RF field propagation and losses, patient risk modeling, and operational training systems. The ideal candidate combines expertise in computational modeling, safety engineering, and simulation platform development to support clinical, research, and training initiatives.

This role will contribute to the design of realistic MRI safety simulations, digital twins, RF exposure models, and workflow training systems for clinical and research environments operating at conventional and ultra‑high magnetic field strengths.

• Minimum Non‑Competitive: bachelor’s degree and five years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.
• Substitutions: master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience;
  Ph.D. may substitute for an additional year.

• PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
• Proven 2 years experience in at least 2 of the following fields: MRI Radio Frequency systems, Electromagnetics, SAR/Thermal modeling, MRI safety protocols.
• Experience with simulation and modeling in at least one of these tools: COMSOL Multiphysics, Sim4
  
  Life, CST Studio Suite.
• Programming experience in MATLAB or Python.
• 2 years post‑doctoral or industry experience in development of MR systems.
• Proven academic record and scientific publishing in MRI Radio Frequency systems, Electromagnetics, SAR modeling, MRI safety protocols, and experience working with Ultra High Field MR systems.
